About the Program
Horticultural Therapy is an emerging area with many career opportunities. Trained Horticultural Therapists are in demand at hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, rehabilitation centers, schools, and myriad facilities serving individuals with special needs. Rutgers offers a degree and a certificate program; both are designed to prepare students for work in various settings where plants are used to help people. Program design and implementation, as well as funding and consulting are covered in depth. Students will also understand the particular needs and specific nature of various disabilities and impairments.
The Rutgers Horticultural Therapy curricula is approved and accredited by the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA). Students will be able to apply their credentials toward Professional Registration as Horticultural Therapists, available through the American Horticultural Therapy Association. For more information on professional registration, contact AHTA at 800-634-1603 or visit their website at http://www.ahta.org.
