Biography

Juan Gonzalez is a Research Associate in the Turfgrass Breeding and Genomics Laboratory. His work integrates genomics, quantitative genetics, remote sensing, and computer vision to improve the characterization and prediction of complex traits in polyploid, specialty cropping systems.

Juan completed his Ph.D. in Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology at University of Florida, where he developed high-throughput computer vision approaches for sweet corn phenotyping and applied them to genomic analysis, marker discovery, and disease resistance studies.

In addition to research, he teaches and mentors students in quantitative genetics, bioinformatics, and applied data analysis. Outside of academia, he enjoys foraging, hiking, and gardening.
