Biography
Norman Lalancette is an Extension Specialist in Tree Fruit Pathology located at the Rutgers Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Bridgeton, NJ. Dr. Lalancette received his B.S in Agriculture from Cornell University in 1979 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1982 and 1985, respectively. Dr. Lalancette's research program focuses on the epidemiology and control of diseases on peach, the most important tree fruit crop in New Jersey. Emphasis is on quantification of the various monocyclic components of peach disease cycles, particularly in response to the abiotic environment. An understanding of how weather factors influence epidemics can lead to improvements in disease control. Applied research is also conducted to evaluate and optimize use of conventional fungicides and bactericides, as well as biorational or organic compounds. Much of the research results are published annually in the New Jersey Commercial Tree Fruit Production Guide, which provides practical information directly to growers as well as support for the Rutgers Commercial Tree Fruit IPM program. In addition to peach, Dr. Lalancette's state-wide extension program supports disease management on all tree fruits, including apple, plum, cherry, and pear.
